![]() Thanks to all that came out and participated in this event, we are looking ofrward to next year already, those cherubic faces light up so when the kites go up, it is a true thing of joy to see!!! We were given a box of Gayla kites to give away to each child for his/her own kite to fly, and after a morning of frustratingly errant winds, we finally picked up the "coastal breeze" that Rockport Beach Park is so well known for and had a fantatic display up on no time !! We flew aerials and demos all afternoon through some pretty hot weather (HI 107!!) and even though one of the kites tried to commit suicide on a light pole we didn't break down until almost dark. from Houston/Galveston area, and Cloud Chasers from the Austin area. This year they had almost 60 families show up and we invited all the Texas coastal kite clubs to join us in flying, four were represented S.P.I.K.E. of SanAntonio and they had ten families attend, we went and flew some kites for them, had a kitemaking workshhop, and they bought some little diamonds to give each down syndrome kid. Then they invited other families from the Down Syndrome Assoc. Originally a day at the beach for Audrey, a down syndrome grandchild of Jackie & Ray Schockley of Rockport they would have their little grandbaby come down and enjoy the beach, some kayaking with Dad, and some fishing, along with a picnic lunch and dinner etc. The June event of the month in Texas was the Annual Invitational Down Syndrome Fun Fly hosted by our local Coastal Bend Skypirates, this happening has grown by leaps and bounds the past two years. Kids start school this Monday, the week-end traffic has been laid back to say the least for the past two weeks!! Only a handful of people in here all day today, but as we are changing our website I had plenty to keep me occupied!! How do you like to new look of the site? Send your comments to I really would like some input here!!!Īll for now- looking forward to seeing you on the kite field as the weather cools we will be way more active in getting out ourselves!! We are planning on a trip to LaPorte in late September for a festival at Sylvan Beach- have some new creative ideas we would like to complete by then- we shall see how much time we "make" to get that done. The banner factory has been a little slower, but we have some projects that need to get done-we had a slow up on cloth arrivals, now in house, but now the energy to get after it is harder to find!!- Midnight hours it looks like. Roger is about the only kiteflyer that goes out regularly, and he goes home early to avoid the heat. ![]() Yes it has been summer- even down here on the coast!! We have been in the 90's forever, no rain this last month to speak of- and just plain muggy all the time.
